GBLA is currently accepting applications for full-time attorney’s with 3+ years of experience to conduct litigation with our housing team. The attorney will defend eviction lawsuits and provide advice and education to tenants about their rights. In addition, the attorney will be involved in all aspects of affirmative litigation to improve housing conditions, prevent displacement, and combat discrimination.
In Kern County, low-wage workers who have been hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic are facing a crisis of evictions, predatory rent increases, and housing discrimination. GBLA is a legal service non-profit that combines policy advocacy and impact litigation with direct legal services. We routinely have multiple impact cases pending at any one time, and we specialize in housing, immigration, and economic advancement. Our legal advocates work side-by-side with low-income communities, to bring about lasting change.
Qualified candidates must have a California Bar membership, three (3) or more years of post-law school legal experience. The attorney must have a commitment to serving low-income population, ability to relate and communicate with a broad range of clients and colleagues. Proficiency in verbal Spanish is preferred by not required, clearly and concisely writing, and proficient with Excel, Word, Outlook, and Westlaw.

GBLA strives to accomplish its mission by first providing legal services to meet the basic legal needs of its eligible clients. These basic legal problems generally involve preventing homelessness, access to health care, and securing financial resources to meet basic necessities of life. Secondly, GBLA tries to help those eligible clients who are able and willing to get out of poverty. In this regard, GBLA’s focus is on those legal needs that address issues of economic and family stability, physical security, and access to high quality education.
