Assistant District Attorney The candidate will be responsible for: Interviewing victims, witnesses, law enforcement officers, and other parties. Reading and analyzing discovery. Preparing and filing criminal charges. Arguing in court. Negotiating plea bargains. Conducting preliminary hearings and hearings on pretrial matters such as arraignment, bail, parole, probation, and sentencing. Serving as the prosecuting attorney in trials, which entails conducting jury selection, making opening statements, examining witnesses, and delivering closing arguments. Presenting oral arguments in appellate courts. Representing the Commonwealth in juvenile cases at all stages of those proceedings. Reviewing and approving search warrants and felony criminal complaints. Writing briefs, correspondence, memoranda, subpoenas, pleadings, motions, and petitions. Preparing and submitting sentence recommendations to the District Attorney for approval. Advocating for crime victims. Providing assistance to law enforcement on a 24-hour on-call basis. Performing routine administrative duties such as maintaining office files, copying and faxing documents, typing forms and reports, and answering the telephone. Conferring with victims, witnesses, law enforcement officers, district attorneys, defense attorneys, district judges, medical personnel, court clerks, probation officers, and other County department and staff members. Referring to state and federal statutes, legal opinions, treaties, legal texts, newspapers, technical journals, periodicals, case law, maps, encyclopedia, and dictionaries. Must have a Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school, supplemented by 5 years of experience or training as a licensed lawyer. Must be members in good standing with both the Pennsylvania and Federal bars. Computer literacy is also required, with competence in Word, Excel, Outlook, and Westlaw.
