Institutional Partnership Director Duties: Drive forward the development of approaches and methods to manage and grow institutional partnerships. Will define new public-private partnerships to advance science and technology and evaluate and offer novel mechanisms and frameworks. Coordinate and work closely with others in S&TPO, as well as programmatic and operations leaders across the lab to ensure efforts are strategically aligned and successful. Develop a university partnership strategy, engage with non-profit and non-governmental entities, and contribute to building regional partnerships aligned to the Argonne in Chicago strategy to fulfill strategic mission to accelerate science and technology for U.S. prosperity and security. Ensure recognition as a continuing source of high-impact science, technology, and engineering and attract additional university and college, non-profit, non-governmental, and international partners. As the chief advocate for building long-term, institutional partnerships, will foster partnerships with research institutions and nonprofit organizations, including universities, colleges, foundations, and economic development organizations. Will also establish and build strategic relationships with Laboratory leadership, Department of Energy, and other entities and work with internal stakeholders to proactively manage potential conflict of interest and financial risks to the lab. Establishes and develops relationships with Laboratory staff through coaching and collaborating on partnership development efforts, while providing leadership and management to direct reports.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: Experience in working with broad constituencies that include scientific and technical staff, professional staff, universities, non-profit organizations, non-governmental entities, and communications media. Experience in working under pressure with competing deadlines and priorities, maintaining integrity and confidentiality of information. Track record of demonstrated success in developing and executing comprehensive and coordinated outreach and partnership strategies for increased mission impact. Demonstrated experience and success in leading, managing, developing, and retaining high-performing professional talent including evaluating employee performance; setting team and individual expectations and goals; creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment; and focusing on development and teamwork. Successful track record in cultivating, managing, and maintaining effective, constructive collaborations and partnerships with an understanding of national trends and priorities. Ability to significantly contribute to the “Argonne in Chicago” strategy, aimed at growing Argonne’s physical presence in Chicago to strengthen ties with university and regional ecosystem partners. Skills in successful negotiation and formation of strategic partnerships with academia, non-profit and non-governmental organizations. Extensive knowledge and demonstrated expertise in establishing institutional agreements that provide benefit to both parties. Proven track record in management functions such as planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Skills and experiences in establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships; handling conflict resolution, gaining cooperation of others, and negotiating matters of significance in a team environment. Preferred experience working within a research institution. Advanced degree in science, engineering, MBA, or JD Degree.
