Estates and Trusts Paralegal / Trust Administrator Duties: Responsible for paralegal support of estate and trust planning and administration, and operational support of a wide range of trust accounts, agency/custody accounts, exempt organizations and estates in accordance with the terms of trust instruments and fiduciary law. Works closely with and takes direction from responsible attorneys and other paralegals in the Private Client Services Group Chair(s). This individual works well with other practice groups and has extensive client contact. Communicate with attorneys and clients about meetings, estate planning worksheets, and estate planning documents. Enter client information into firm systems. Prepare, review and revise estate planning documents. Participate in attorney-client conferences. Participate in attorney-client conferences. Communicate with attorneys and clients about meetings, estate and trust assets, and valuation and distribution of assets. Prepare documents to open estates. Identify, value, and transfer estate and trust assets. Obtain needed appraisals of estate and trust assets. Distribute assets. Close estates and trusts. Obtain Employer ID Numbers for estates and trusts. Prepare federal estate tax returns. Prepare fiduciary income tax returns for estates and trusts. Prepare individual income tax returns. Serve as a point of contact for all Fiduciary Services matters and questions Operational support of a variety of trusts and IRA accounts Coordinate work activities involving outside service providers Use trust system to monitor accounts, produce reports and respond to questions. Submit entries to trust system. Request checks using trust system. Initiate wire transfers and ACH transfers. Manage client internet access to Fiduciary Services accounts. Manage distribution of periodic paper and electronic account statements. Manage distribution of tax reports and proof 1099s.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Paralegal certificate or Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting or other business related field, or equivalent work experience. 5-10 years’ experience as paralegal. Experience in accounting, trust operations, tax, or trust administration preferred. Superior communication skills. Superior analytical skills. Understanding of principal and income accounting. Understanding of tax matters and implications on trusts and trust transactions. Knowledge and experience working on trust accounting systems Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). Ability to confidently meet with and present to clients, trustees, and other professionals. Detail orientation and organizational skills. Understanding of financial markets and investment asset types.
