Staff Attorney, Family and Immigration Law The candidate will represent clients in the following matters: Matrimonial & Family Law: orders of protection, custody/visitation, divorce, child and spousal support Immigration Law: VAWA self-petitions, U Visas, T Visas, SIJS, asylum applications, removal defense, applications to adjust status, citizenship applications, provisional waivers, etc. Will provide legal representation and conduct legal advocacy for immigrant non-citizen survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other trauma in family and immigration law matters. Maintain an active litigation case load in Family Court, Supreme Court, and Immigration Court. Represent immigrant survivors in administrative applications before USCIS. Provide advice and consultation to immigrants in New York City, including at on-site clinical programs. Represent NYLAG at advocate meetings and community events. Work with and mentor pro bono attorneys, volunteers, and law students working with NYLAG. Conduct trainings for community based organizations, local agencies, and other advocates in the related substantive matters.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have admission to NYS Bar. Experience working with survivors of trauma, immigrants and/or underserved communities is required. Should preferably have 2-3 years of experience in matrimonial and family law and immigration law. Excellent oral advocacy, litigation and writing skills are needed. Fluency in another language, including Spanish, is strongly preferred.
