A law firm based in Irvine, CA, is actively seeking a seasoned Municipal Law Attorney to enhance their dedicated team. This position requires a candidate with extensive experience in municipal law, particularly in handling complex legal issues faced by local government entities. The ideal applicant will have a strong background in legal advisory roles, civil litigation, and regulatory compliance, with a minimum of eight years of specialized experience.

Duties:

  • Serve as legal advisor to city councils, planning boards, and other municipal entities on various substantive areas, including land use, public contracts, and civil rights.
  • Represent municipal clients in civil litigation and administrative proceedings.
  • Draft and review ordinances, resolutions, and other legislative documentation.
  • Provide guidance on compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Negotiate, draft, and review contracts and agreements for municipal clients.
  • Handle public records requests and advise on issues related to the Brown Act and other transparency laws.
  • Conduct legal training and workshops for client groups and public officials.
  • Engage in risk management and preventive law on behalf of municipal clients.

Requirements:

  • Must be licensed to practice law in the State of California.
  • Minimum of eight years of experience in municipal law.
  • Demonstrated experience in advisory roles to government entities or private clients on public sector issues.
  • Proven track record of handling complex civil litigation.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, capable of effectively communicating legal concepts to non-lawyers.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • An active member of the California State Bar.

Skills:

  • Deep understanding of municipal operations and legal issues pertinent to public agencies.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
