Attorney The candidate will be representing client interests in a variety of legal, regulatory, and compliance matters relating to the utility industry, with a focus on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (“FERCâ€) and associated appeals. Will be drafting legal agreements and routinely advising our client on regulatory and rate-related legal issues. Performing legal work that regularly involves: The absence of clear and directly applicable legal precedents; The complex interface of regulatory, political, and legal matters; The complex interface of the law, regulatory structure, and technical engineering matters; Substantial importance to the Company; and Formal proceedings or negotiations with sophisticated individuals, corporations, or government agencies. Developing strong working partnerships with clients in a team-based environment and through clear communication. Working independently and with little supervision. Developing strong subject matter expertise that the client relies on for regular advice and counsel. Balancing legal risks with the clients’ goals and helping the clients develop business strategies to achieve those goals. Excellent writing skills is needed. Oversees the management and review of Company contracts and legal documents with specified departments. Represents the Company in legal matters and gives legal advice. Conducts research on statutes and case law pertaining to specific areas of expertise. Analyzes the facts as they pertain to a particular law and gives guidance to clients. Effectively communicates to facilitate and ensure adherence to Company policies and procedures. Defines alternatives and balances risks and relays alternatives to the client. Acts as a liaison to internal and external legal counsel. Responsible for effectively advocating when presenting a legal position to a court or tribunal, including appellate courts. Ensures the accuracy of legal opinions by conducting ongoing review of state and federal laws and regulations. Reviews legal pronouncements issued by various regulatory bodies and recommends revisions to policies and procedures. Maintains records of designated legal activities. Analyzes, interprets, and verifies legal documents and reports; makes corrections and updates as necessary. Maintains regular and predictable attendance during regularly scheduled work hours at assigned worksite. Supervisory positions will coordinate the activities of a designated unit; determine work procedures, prepare work schedules and determine methods for expediting work flow; assigns, reviews and approves the work of subordinate staff. Regular attendance is expected. A law degree and currently effective membership in at least one state’s Bar is needed. Should have 2+ years’ experience in litigation and/or administrative hearings work experience. Experience advising and practicing before FERC is needed. Utility and/or other regulatory background is essential. State or federal appellate experience.
