ProfileLaw Clerk The candidate work involves the performance of professional legal research, preparation of memoranda, opinions, and orders, staffing court and jury trials and other hearings and other related clerical/administrative work for the judge. Duties: Reviewing, studying, researching, and annotating laws, court decisions, documents, opinions, briefs, and related legal authorities. Preparation of briefs, legal memoranda, and jury instructions, including appropriate suggestions or recommendations to the judge. Compiling references on laws and decisions necessary for legal determinations. Conferring with judge concerning legal questions, construction of documents, and granting of orders. Staffing court sessions to hear oral arguments and recording necessary case information; maintaining records attendant to court proceedings. Courtroom duties, including: taking court minutes; calling the calendar; swearing in jury panels and witness; and assisting in various court proceedings such as arraignments, motions, hearings, pre-trial conferences, and trials. Other administrative duties as assigned by Judge Anderson.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must be Graduate of an accredited law school. Law review or top 50% of class, or previous experience as Law Clerk is required. Strong organizational skills is preferred. Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds is desired. Top third of law school graduating class is preferred.
