Duties:

  • Provide comprehensive legal advice on . import and export control laws, tariff classifications, customs valuation, and related compliance issues.
  • Represent clients in matters involving trade remedies, free trade agreements, and tariff preference programs, including those under the USMCA/NAFTA framework.
  • Handle transactions involving controlled technologies, ensuring regulatory compliance throughout the process.
  • Conduct detailed legal research and provide analytical support for trade-related regulatory issues.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize legal documents about international trade and corporate transactions.
  • Secure necessary licenses and approvals for clients in regulatory matters.
  • Stay informed of updates in international trade laws and provide strategic counsel to clients on potential impacts.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in corporate transactions with an emphasis on international trade matters.
  • Proven expertise in managing trade compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with processes involving tariffs, counterfeiting, and enforcement of intellectual property rights at borders.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed and in good standing in the state of Michigan or the Washington, . area.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of trade preference programs and trade remedies, including USMCA, AD/CVD, and Section 301.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical capabilities.
  • Effective communication skills for conveying complex legal concepts.
  • High level of organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects efficiently.
  • Experience with ITAR, EAR, CFIUS, and OFAC Sanctions Programs is advantageous.
