Corporate Counsel - Data Privacy The candidate join team in the Legal Department's Global Privacy Office. Responsibilities will include: Handling privacy and data protection-related inquiries from a wide range of groups across the company and providing actionable advice and legal counsel regarding same. Educating others about and helping to implement various requirements driven by privacy and data protection laws, regulations, controls, standards and best practices, such as the GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA and proposed NIST Privacy Framework. Reviewing, drafting and updating policies and procedures which deal with personal information. Reviewing, drafting and negotiating various types of agreements (e.g., vendor/service provider agreements, customer agreements, data processing and data usage agreements, Business Associate Agreements). Developing guidelines, training and tools to support accountability and compliance across the organization. Monitoring and summarizing relevant legislative developments, case law, regulatory guidance and enforcement actions in the U.S., UK, EU, Canada and AU. Evaluating various company' programs and initiatives in light of applicable privacy/data protection requirements. Working closely with internal stakeholders in various corporate functions and lines of business (Groups) to analyze and respond to privacy-related issues and questions. Providing legal advice to business stakeholders in the area of data privacy and facilitate privacy and data protection compliance.

Qualification and Experience

A J.D. and CIPP/US and CIPP/E certifications is needed. Active membership and good standing in at least one State Bar is needed. Should have 5-8 years of legal experience, with at least 4 years of practical privacy/data protection experience Must have solid knowledge of and familiarity with U.S. and EU privacy and data security laws, regulations and standards, including HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA, U.S. state and federal privacy, data security, breach notification, consumer protection and employment-related privacy laws, regulations and proposed legislation. Prior experience working for a federal government contractor is desired. Should have demonstrated transactional experience, including reviewing, drafting and negotiating privacy and data protection contract terms and agreements, such as Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) and data processing, usage, and/or transfer agreements. Must have experience with implementing incident response plans, responding to data security incidents and advising on applicable legal requirements. Should have strong academic credentials. Must have ability to translate legal requirements into practical guidance for non-lawyers. Knowledge of data classification, data mapping and data management methodologies is desired. Should preferably have Knowledge of Australian privacy laws and regulatory guidance.
