Consulting Director, Outside Counsel Relationship Management The candidate will work with Claim leadership to set overall panel strategy for assigned region. Will lead cross-functional teams to execute effective strategies for cost, performance and outcome improvements from defense Panel firms. Evaluate existing Panel firms, research and identify alternative Panel firms in assigned region. Develop strong relationships with senior partners / firm relationship partners and serve as the single point of contact for panel firms in assigned region, which will include company’s top national and regional firms, as well as responsibility for relationship with firms paid more than $50 million annually. Oversee development and execution of strategies through the sourcing process for assigned top Panel counsel spend states. Champion and secure improved outcomes (i.e., rate reductions, changes in fee structure, while controlling for quality, hours billed and outcome of assigned matters). Conduct Panel firm selection and negotiation process (i.e., rate/fee structure and service level agreements). Partner with Claim leaders to leverage company’s referrals to Panel firms. Track performance of panel firms and deliver external feedback, including billing compliance and Claim quality assessments. Monitor compliance with internal and external policies, regulations and laws. Perform periodic firm file level reviews for quality and compliance. May perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree with J.D. degree. Must have 10+ years of related work experience. Preference for recent insurance defense litigation or law firm management experience. Insurance defense litigation experience strongly preferred. Should have in depth technical knowledge and experience with litigation practices, processes and partnerships. Knowledge of insurance industry, its products and services is required. Excellent knowledge of implementing best practices, including market analysis, supplier negotiations, selection, evaluation, management, and development is essential. Deep knowledge of the market for legal services supporting both the Commercial and Specialty lines of business is a must.
