Senior Paralegal - Labor and Employment / Commercial Litigation The candidate will be responsible for resolution of labor and employment matters, employment litigation and commercial litigation. Assists attorneys to resolve routine and moderately complex to complex legal matters that involve various functional areas or divisions within company with minimal supervision. Independently identifies problems, performs analysis and proposes solutions to a more experienced paralegal or attorney. Represents legal division internally to clients. Reviews invoices associated with payment for services, ensuring costs are reasonable, in scope of work performed and meet outside counsel billing guidelines. Independently manages the internal process for responding to charges of discrimination, wages claims and other employment claims filed or asserted against the Company, having substantial impact to the company. Conducts factual investigation of claims; formulates strategy for responding; analyzes and determines relevancy of information; and manages collection of information, documents and data from employee relations, human resources and the business. Determines relevant custodians and scope for legal holds based on information learned throughout duration of claim; drafts and issues legal holds to the appropriate employees within the company; manages legal hold compliance and questionnaire responses; and determines whether any processes need to change. Manages relationship with agencies and opposing counsel regarding information to be provided and witnesses to be presented. Prepares company's response to claims and subsequent requests for information; and ensures timely filing of responses. Independently manages discovery for employment litigation and commercial litigation matters, having substantial impact to the company, and performs all tasks timely. Assists with initial fact investigation for potential and pending litigation. Prepares and sends out legal holds to the appropriate employees within the company and manages legal hold compliance and questionnaire responses. Schedules and attends witness interviews. Identifies relevant document and data sources, coordinates collection of company documents for discovery and other requests. Assists in deposition preparation of company witnesses by analyzing the information and determining relevancy. Assists counsel with trial preparation. Responds to subpoenas and requests for information with minimal supervision, including identification, collection, review and preparation of documents for production. Manages outside counsel, outside paralegals and vendors and e-Discovery vendor budget for assigned matters. Provides support on periodic and special projects. Coaches and directs assigned support staff (may include junior paralegals and legal assistants) in their responsibilities. Serves as role model for paralegals and legal assistants. Assists in selecting and recruiting staff members. Typically reports to Paralegal Supervisor or an attorney. Executes core job responsibilities in a timely manner. Assigned matters generally have a significant impact on business activities and operations. Interacts across all levels of management within the company. Should have a Bachelor's degree and/or relevant legal education (Paralegal certificate). Must have 4+ years of paralegal experience, including direct experience in litigation and labor/employment support. Should have solid knowledge of company's businesses supported and knowledge of the broader business impact.
