Associate Counsel I Duties: Ensure timely delivery of quality legal advice and service to support internal clients on a broad range of domestic and international supply chain legal issues, including commercial and operational matters, privacy, anti-trust, compliance, records management and general corporate issues. Manage relationships with business leaders to encourage and continue proactive use of internal legal counsel. Advise management on legal matters in order to safeguard the organization against legal liability. Manage outside counsel when retained to (i) respond to high demand for legal services, (ii) address issues requiring special expertise and (iii) represent interests in litigation (when such litigation is not managed by insurerâ€™s appointed counsel). Includes evaluating and developing strategy with respect to complex issues and resolving disputes through negotiation or litigation while minimizing adverse publicity and monetary exposure, maximizing recovery and preserving on-going business relationships with customers, vendors and other third parties. Provide guidance in the development, updating and implementation of compliance and other legal/risk training as needed for management and staff, including code of conduct, privacy, anti-corruption/bribery, anti-trust, contract review and approval, and other legal policies and guidelines.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD degree from accredited law school and currently admitted to practice law in 1 state within the U.S. 5+ years of direct legal supply chain experience within a private law firm or corporate law department. Analytical, practical and commercially focused problem solving. Organized. Clear and concise communication skills. Decisive. Self-sufficient. Proactive. Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Legal knowledge and work experience in global supply chain required. Knowledge of key industry areas of law, including but not limited to: land, ocean and air transportation and forwarding; warehouse management and engineering; origin/destination consolidation and deconsolidation; customs clearance and processing; and control tower/vendor management. Additional experience in IP, industrial real estate, data protection and/or anti-trust/anti-bribery law a plus. xcellent commercial sense, negotiation and project management skills. Advanced negotiations and project management skills. Global or regional supply chain legal work experience outside of the U.S. and/or experience directly managing and supervising legal staff.
