Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a dedicated and skilled Associate Attorney to join their team in Milwaukee, WI. The ideal candidate will manage a significant caseload focused on defense litigation and insurance coverage litigation. This role requires a blend of legal research, drafting, and client interaction skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Handle a substantial caseload involving primarily defense litigation and insurance coverage litigation.
- Draft, prepare, and manage pleadings, motions, orders, and legal memoranda.
- Draft and respond to written discovery requests and dispositive motions.
- Conduct legal research competently and proficiently.
- Prepare and take depositions of parties and witnesses.
- Review client documents, draft case evaluations, and prepare status report correspondence.
- Assist with and participate in mediations and court appearances.
- Interact directly with clients, claim professionals, opposing counsel, colleagues, and staff.
Requirements:
- 1-3 years of relevant experience in defense and insurance coverage litigation.
- Must be licensed to practice law in Wisconsin.
- Additional court admissions would be considered a plus.
Education and Certifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the Wisconsin State Bar.
Skills:
- Proficient in legal research and analytical tasks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and prioritization abilities with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple cases and tasks effectively.
- Knowledge of both state and federal court procedures.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, and navigating the internet.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
