Senior Attorney Duties: Serves as data privacy officer to the organization for all departments and appropriate entities. Works with management to establish an organization-wide data privacy oversight committee. Serves in a leadership role in the guidance of the data privacy oversight committee’s activities. Provides development guidance and assists in the identification, implementation, and maintenance of data privacy in coordination with executive management. Performs initial and periodic information privacy risk assessments and conducts related ongoing compliance monitoring activities in coordination with other compliance and operational assessment functions. Works closely with Global Technology, Product, Security, Customer Support, Research and Marketing to assess potential privacy and security risks, and regulatory requirements for products and technologies. Ensure that has and maintains appropriate privacy and confidentiality consent, authorization forms, and information notices and materials reflecting current organization and legal practices and requirements. Assists in the development of Privacy by Design strategies for products and technologies and drives business solutions. with the Security Team to investigate and report inappropriate access and disclosure of personal information. Oversees, directs, delivers, or ensures delivery of initial and on-going data privacy training and orientation to all employees, contractors and other appropriate third parties. Ensures compliance with privacy practices and consistent application of sanctions for failure to comply with data privacy policies for all individuals in the organization’s workforce in cooperation with Human Resources, the information security officer, administration, and legal counsel as applicable. Reviews and revises a variety of contracts, including customer, HR, and vendor agreements, to ensure inclusion of necessary data privacy and security provisions. Develops best practices relating to customer experience, including answering any questions about privacy and security practices. Works with outside counsel to monitor and interpret relevant laws, contractual obligations and industry best practices and apply those within the business. Reviews all system-related information security plans throughout the organization to ensure alignment between security and privacy practices, and acts as a liaison to the information security department.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements: JD Degree, a member in good standing of the Ohio Bar preferred. IAPP Certifications such as CIPP/US, CIPP/IT, CIPP/M and/or CIPP/E preferred. 3+ years of relevant experience, including at a law firm and/or prior in-house experience, with significant hands-on experience building and maintaining privacy programs and controls for internet or technology companies’ privacy programs (applicable litigation, regulatory, or product counseling experience will be considered). Experience in the technology industry with Open Source Software (“OSS”), cloud-based computing and Internet issues preferred. Excellent writing, presentation and analytical skills. Strong understanding and experience with international data privacy laws and industry guidelines, particularly in the U.S. and European Union. Track record of success working closely with business partners across multiple functions, including information security, compliance, legal, research, marketing and product. Demonstrated ability to work independently, learn quickly, prioritize multiple tasks, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment with deadlines. Ability to influence and drive projects to conclusion based upon the needs of the business, while maintaining a positive outlook and a good sense of humor.
