Senior Patent Counsel Duties: Represent and advise the Firm’s pharmaceutical businesses and R&D units in the areas of patent law and strategy. Draft and prosecute patent applications. Draft and negotiate transactional agreements. Conduct third-party IP diligence. Oversight of contractual corporate relationships. Support in patent-related litigations. Specifically, support the Discovery, Product Development & Supply organization of Janssen Research & Development.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Undergraduate Degree in Biological or Chemical science. An Advanced Degree or laboratory experience is preferred. A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and an active registration, in good standing, with a state Bar, and as a USPTO registered patent attorney. 5+ years of experience drafting and prosecuting large or small molecule patent applications at a law firm or in-house legal department of a multinational corporation. 2+ years of experience in license/agreement drafting, negotiation, and counseling is preferred. Experience in rendering patentability and non-infringement opinions and supporting due diligence activities. Fluency in both written and spoken English, emotional intelligence, and ability to counsel senior management. The ability to work independently and across business functions and cultures with teams across multiple time zones. The ability to accommodate occasional overnight travel to domestic and international destinations. Technical proficiency in one or more of the following areas is preferred: RNA-based therapeutics, computational chemistry, protein chemistry, cell-based therapeutics, or induced pluripotent stem cell technology.
