Medical Paralegal The candidate will perform duties with direction of Legal Counsel in specific practice area. May work with minimal supervision on matters of any degree of complexity. Interacts with internal and external entities, including but not limited to outside counsel, law firms, government agencies, expert witnesses, and corporations to gather information or data. Compiles information concerning pertinent issues and prepares written summaries, statistics, charts and/or graphs that clearly detail the findings. Updates claim database with information pertinent to the process of cases, dates and deadlines, witness identification and discovery activity; facilitates and coordinate the discovery process. Provides assistance to outside defense counsel in response to requests for case fact information and/or documents. Performs legal, factual, medical and legislative research of any degree of complexity to identify issues and relevant information. Other duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a completion of an accredited Registered Nurse academic program (either degree or diploma) required. Bachelor’s degree or certificate of completion of an accredited paralegal program preferred. Minimum of 8 years or experience, including 5 years nursing and/or Risk Management experience as an R.N. and at least 3 years of experience as a paralegal or similar role in a law firm, health care system or major corporate legal environment. Experience in performing the duties of a defense medical malpractice paralegal strongly preferred. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism, maturity and confidentiality. Must understands legal process, familiar with legal terms and basic understanding of negligence, specifically as it relates to medical malpractice. Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Familiar with medical terminology and the ability to understand and analyze medical records.
