Profile

Mass Torts / Environmental In-house Attorney The candidate will report directly to the Managing Counsel. Will assist the Managing Counsel in identifying, recognizing, analyzing, and providing direction for and resolution of complex mass tort and environmental legal issues impacting the successful management of a major DOE GOCO. Provide day to day legal support and advice to management and subject matter experts on the application of federal and state laws and regulation in matters related to corporate mass tort, litigation, and environmental legal matters, particularly involving corporate governance, government oversight, and regulatory compliance. Principal areas of responsibility include: complex mass tort litigation; general litigation and investigations; and risk assessment; including, evaluation and analysis of claims; case assessment; analysis and oversight of case strategy; factual discovery; and settlement negotiations. Will also provide legal support for corporate Environmental Safety and Health regulatory compliance program in performing legal and policy review and analysis and rendering legal consults and/or opinions. May attend and participate in business negotiations and collaborate and/or manage outside legal counsel on various legal matters.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have a J.D. degree from an accredited law school and be a member in good standing of the Bar in at least one US state or territory. Must have 5-7 years of relevant legal experience focused on general corporate law and litigation. Should have admission to practice in the US, preferably the state Bar of NY, PA, or ID. Prior experience within Defense or related industries is preferred. Experience in advising and representing corporate employers, either in private practice or as a member of a corporate legal department is desired. Comprehensive knowledge of applicable statutes, laws, and regulations is required. Should have demonstrated willingness to learn and advise in other general law subject matter areas as needed, including regulatory compliance, government contracts, labor and employment, and administrative law.
