ProfileAssociate General Counsel Duties: Ownership and management of the retail leasing process, including drafting and negotiating leases, lease amendments, termination agreements, settlement agreements, and other real estate contracts and related documentation for new and existing retail developments (e.g., letters of intent, licenses, term commencement agreements, memoranda of lease, waivers of exclusives, reciprocal access agreements, letters of credit, subordination, non-disturbance and attornment agreements). Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of real estate transactions in support of development pipeline, including outparcel purchase and sale agreements, declarations, operating and easement agreements, ground leases, site development agreements, and other agreements. Coordinating with Property Management Team to ensure appropriate provisions are into leases and declarations. Providing general legal support, advice and training to business partners related to transaction structuring and strategy, key contract provisions, commercial disputes, process improvements, and other matters impacting. Developing contract management processes and best practices, including process improvement and providing regular updates of form documents and clauses. Establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with a broad set of internal partners (both business and legal) and outside resources.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Active Indiana State Bar membership. 5-7 years of practice, including relevant law firm experience (in-house legal department experience a plus), practicing as a transaction and leasing attorney in real estate, with a strong understanding in the areas of retail and commercial leasing, property management and landlord/tenant and other real estate disputes. Be driven for results, collaboration and self-motivated to navigate projects through to a successful completion. Have shown results as a business-oriented problem solver and a flexible team player. Display excellent analysis and negotiation skills with the ability to balance legal risks with business imperatives associated with complex real estate transactions and other matters. Demonstrate an excellent sense of prioritization and organization with the ability to manage multiple tasks and client relationships in a fast-paced environment. Deliver strong attention to detail and accuracy skills. Exhibit excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
