Controller Responsibilities: Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting operational functions, except FP&A and Billing. Safeguard assets and ensure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks across all departments. Manage the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of accounts payable, cash disbursements, payroll, fixed asset records, general and entity accounting, and cost accounting. Develop, improve and issue timely monthly financial records for the Chief Financial Officer and the Firm’s management team. Provide Firm management with information vital to the decision-making process. Manage banking relationships to facilitate an appropriate credit resource under highly competitive terms. Interface with outside audit firms, banks and lessors, and credit card companies, and collection agencies. Assess current accounting operations, offer recommendations for improvement and implement new processes. Evaluate accounting and internal control systems. Oversee regulatory reporting, including tax planning and compliance at the partnership and partner level, for payroll, benefit and retirement plans. Hire, train and retain skilled accounting staff. Other duties as requested and assigned.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration with 10 years of experience. A Certified Public Accountant license is required. General knowledge of accounting principles and audit and internal control concepts. Ability to concentrate and conduct complex and detailed analysis of financial situations. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate and apply concepts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, fractions, percentages, ratios, probability, statistical inference, proportions, basic algebra and geometry, and area and circumference to practical situations. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. Demonstrated proficiency with higher level Excel functions and database applications. Proven aptitude to learn new software applications. Ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral formats and respond to questions from all levels of professional and support staff and clients. Ability to effectively present information to top Firm management, attorneys and other key personnel. Ability to manage and exceed expectations and to exhibit a high degree of responsiveness, diplomacy and professionalism in these interactions. Ability to lead and build consensus among peers and staff. Ability to manage a team across a range of skill levels and geographies, internal and external, to provide high levels of service to end user. Ability to coordinate the activities of department resources. Excellent organizational and planning skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines. Demonstrate good judgment, tact, and flexibility under pressure in a mixed-matrix environment with many stakeholders and potentially competing priorities. A strong client service approach and team orientation. Ability to exercise discretion with confidential and sensitive information and to demonstrate impeccable integrity in personal and fiduciary matters.
