This position is ideal for an individual with a solid biological science background and significant patent prosecution experience. The successful candidate will be critical in managing and advancing the firm’s biotechnology patent portfolio, providing expert legal counsel, and contributing to innovative legal strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and prosecute biotechnology patent applications from inception through to grant.
  • Conduct detailed patent searches and analyses to support patentability and freedom-to-operate opinions.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate patent-related agreements, including licensing and collaboration agreements.
  • Provide strategic counsel on patent portfolio management and patent litigation matters.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to understand and address complex biotechnology-related issues.
  • Stay current with biotechnology and intellectual property law advancements to provide cutting-edge legal advice.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on patent issues and strategies to clients and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in biological sciences (. preferred).
  • At least 5+ years of experience in prosecuting biotechnology patent applications.
  • Excellent academic credentials and demonstrated expertise in biotechnology law.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school.
  • Advanced degree in biological sciences (. preferred).

Certifications

  • Admission to the Bar in Oregon or eligibility for admission.

Skills

  • Strong writing, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex scientific data and legal documents.
  • Proven track record in managing and prosecuting patent applications in the biotechnology sector.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
