Claims Counsel The candidate will negotiate settlement and resolutions with claimant/opposing counsel/ third parties. Will review and approve outside counsel invoices, expenses, and recommend settlement and expense reserves. Direct outside counsel on litigation strategy through the course of claim administration and litigation. Participate in schedule claims committee meetings with senior management and prepare monthly report of open claims status. Manage network of outside counsel in over 30 states. Resolve administrative claims internally and assist with underwriting escalation as needed. Recommend to management creation or adjustment of reserves (LAE and Title Loss). Must have Juris Doctorate degree along with 3-5 years of claims experience. License to practice law is in good standing is essential. Must have thorough knowledge of title insurance rates and underwriting standards and practices for all licensed states and stay abreast of all current developments within the industry with a focus on legal compliance. Must have knowledge of general legal matters, title insurance underwriting and claims standards for each state with the ability to discuss and review proposed requests for coverage to determine potential risks. Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.
