Paralegal/Legal Assistant Responsibilities : The candidate will be providing assistance to seven attorneys. Will be drafting correspondence and formatting letters and legal memos. Must be preparing exhibits for court and mediation briefs. Filing state and federal complaints, motions, and other legal documents via electronic filing services (ECF/PACER and Lexis File & Serve) and preparing documents for filing under seal. Preparing and arranging for service of court filings, discovery requests, subpoenas, and other legal documents on the parties in our cases (in coordination with the firm’s vendors). Maintaining the firm’s legal calendar (including hearing dates, deadlines, and reminders). Maintaining the firm’s case files (electronic and paper versions). Managing the firm’s blog (using Squarespace to create and edit posts and manage online forms). Preparing and sending press releases (via PR Newswire and Business Wire). Checking legal citations and proofreading documents. Answering phones and greeting clients (when our office manager is unavailable).
Qualification and Experience
Requirement : The candidate should be an undergraduate degree from a four-year college, ideally with courses or extracurricular activities that demonstrate their interest in pursuing a legal career. Should have strong academic credentials.Should have impeccable attention to detail. Must have exceptional computer skills. Should have extensive experience with the advanced functions of Microsoft Office (formatting briefs, letters, and other legal documents; creating and editing tables of authorities, tables of contents, and legal captions; and working with line numbering, pagination, sections, headers/footers, etc.), PDF editing applications (redactions, merging and extracting documents, bates numbering, etc.), and Microsoft Outlook (managing public folders and shared calendars). Should also have familiarity with macOS and be receptive to learning new software applications. Strong analytical and interpretive skills. Applicants should be able to locate, understand, and interpret local court rules in various jurisdictions to ensure proper compliance with filing requirements and communicate with court clerks when rules are vague or ambiguous. Excellent interpersonal and phone skills. Should be comfortable speaking with clients, court clerks, and opposing counsel, as well as the firm’s partners and associates.
