Patent Agents/Technical Specialists - Hard Sciences General

Patent Docket Specialist/Paralegal The candidate will be responsible for handling the daily patent support responsibilities highlighted below in addition to assigned ad hoc project work. Skilled in all Intellectual Property Operational areas, including disclosure and patent docketing, foreign filing, annuities, portfolio review, and maintenance and file management, this position will provide primary docketing support and back-up coverage to these functional areas as needed. Daily processing of incoming and outgoing correspondence (including correspondence with outside counsel, the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, foreign patent offices, authorities (IB) and annuity service vendor). Manage Electronic docketing and Paper docketing. Implementing, maintaining, and managing docket database, as well as preparing patent docket reports and IP portfolio reports. Ensure that all docket dates have been cleared daily and that all patent related deadlines are met. Monitor status of patents and patent applications. Review of files and assistance with file transfers. Managing the integration of acquired properties and transfer of divested properties. Generate docketing reports. Heavy interaction with client (internal and external). Respond to customer service inquiries. Provide backup coverage as needed to annuities, specifically investigation of discrepancies and verification/coordination of payments with vendor and foreign agents. Provide backup coverage as needed to foreign filing, specifically secure PCT filings (utilizing both US/RO and IB/RO), non-PCT countries at convention date and national phase filings out of International Applications. Other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must preferably have 5 to 7 years of experience in IP operations areas, docketing, prosecution, file management and related IP matters. At least 3 years of experience in domestic and foreign patent prosecution docketing is necessary. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain strict confidentiality of the company's Intellectual Property affairs are needed. Ability to work closely with the IP team to develop, implement, and maintain docketing processes, procedures and/or policies for invention disclosures, patents, and patent applications, including daily or periodic clearance of workflow is required. Must be knowledgeable in formality requirements for ex-US filings and statutory deadlines within worldwide jurisdictions. Must be highly accurate, detail oriented and able to manage multiple priorities under deadline pressures in a multi-office setting, and be able to communicate effectively with personnel on all levels. Must be able to work independently and manage a variety of tasks, and assist the larger legal team. Strong verbal and written communication skills are must. Must have extensive knowledge and understanding of patent terminology and filing procedures including both US and foreign matters and knowledge and understanding of current USPTO rules and procedures. Working knowledge of docketing software, preferably IP Manager Software is necessary. Must have strong PC skills in word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, scanning and faxing is essential. Experience with worldwide maintenance fee renewals is a plus. Preferred Associates/Bachelors Degree or Paralegal Certificate is required.
