Managing Attorney-Immigration Legal Assistance The candidate will be responsible to provide leadership to the Immigration Legal Assistance Program (ILAP). Oversee case assignment and quality of legal work to assure the highest quality of service delivery. Oversee program development activities. Provide support and supervision for all staff. Oversee program’s financial system including the creation of annual budgets, monitoring of monthly financial reports, and the accurate allocation of expenses. Assist with the preparation of grant applications, submissions and reports, and seek outside funding for new initiatives. Develop/foster partnerships as appropriate within the legal and immigrant communities to promote collaboration. Provide legal advice, information, referrals, and representation to eligible clients in immigration matters. Provide legal training to pro bono attorneys and members of the private bar in order to increase awareness about and capacity to serve low-income clients. Hold regular staff meetings and regular supervision meetings with legal staff. Oversee and continue development of database to track client matters and deadlines. Conduct educational programs in coordination with community agencies and client groups to inform them about legal rights, and prepare materials related to those presentations as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have Law Degree. Minimum 5 years of experience practicing immigration law is required. Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience is essential. Valid license to practice law in the state of Massachusetts is necessary. Fluency in foreign language is preferred, especially the following languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Nepali and Swahili. Experience with multicultural/ethnic groups and sensitivity to international issues is must. Organizational skills, collaborative spirit, and organizational ability, team player and open to new ideas are needed. Ability to set priorities and handle multiple projects while meeting deadlines is critical. Must be creative and solution oriented problem solving.
