Paralegal III The candidate will have responsibility over commercial transactions/claims and litigation, environmental claims and litigation, intellectual property and government affairs. Will assist in reviewing and responding to commercial and environmental claims and preparing basic transactional documents under supervision of Senior Counsel, including reviewing claims, researching transaction documents, researching legal issues, preparing chronologies, drafting basic commercial agreements, negotiating and drafting settlement agreements and preparing releases. Will also perform administrative assistant duties for Senior Legal Counsel, including preparation of expense reports, travel arrangements, filing, procuring office supplies and scheduling of meetings. Other minor duties may be assigned. Conducts in-depth legal research and analyzes law sources such as statutes, judicial decisions, legal articles and/or codes. Conduct interviews to gather legal information or confer with personnel in other departments and outside the organization while performing research or other legal responsibilities. Reviews and prepares written summaries of regulations, legislation, proposed legislation and rulemaking. Reviews and prepares summaries of claims and customer complaints. Draft basic agreements such as service or vendor agreements, settlement agreements and releases. Ability to handle a large caseload/multi-task and prioritize work and work independently. Assists in implementation of Legal related processes and technologies. Works directly with clients. Maintains statistical and documented information related to cases and/or Company issues. Works with appropriate departments/functions within the Company to ensure implementation of policies or actions when necessary. Responds to questions, subpoenas, requests for records, legal documentation/contracts and/or other requests from outside counsel and Company management. Disseminates requests and related information as required and/or directed. Will collaborate with outside counsel, which may include managing outside counsel staff or contract employees. Will assist in-house attorneys in cost management regarding outside vendors and law firms. Obtains and communicates appropriate authorization when necessary for settlements. Coordinates reporting from outside counsel and consultants.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have an Associate's Degree (accredited) in Paralegal emphasis, or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and two(2) years of relevant work experience. Ten(10) years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement). Bachelors Degree preferred. Ten years of strong legal experience in a fast-paced environment. Approved Paralegal Certificate preferred. Must possess a strong working knowledge with Microsoft office products. Experience with case or matter management systems and reporting tools.
