Foreign Filing / Legal Assistant Duties: Prepare and file patent applications through Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) or through international associates in Patent Offices overseas. Obtain needed documentation and legalization if necessary. Responsible for instructing international agents to pay international annuity fees. Responsible for intake of, and follow-up on, correspondence from international associates and patent offices. Responsible for tracking deadlines for responding to international patent office communications and client instructions. Review, process, and file new applications including National Stage, Continuation, Divisional, Continuation-in-Part, Utility and Provisional applications in the U.S. and globally through international associates and agents. Review and respond to client correspondence and preparation of formal documents including Declarations, Substitute Statements, Assignments, and Powers of Attorney. Review and process formalities including Official Filing Receipts, Notices of Publication, Missing Parts, Informational Notices, Notices of Allowance and ISRWO. Prepare and file Information Disclosure Statements including determination of fee or certification requirements. Preparation of reporting letters and invoices.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Four-year college degree preferred. 2+ years of foreign filing experience. 3+ years patent prosecution experience. Experienced in working in Microsoft Office Suite. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Understanding of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and the USPTO patent process is required. Familiarity with Pattsy and First to File a plus. Pattern of consistent, accurate and quality work product; Application of practice specific knowledge and skills, both substantive and procedural. Problem solving skills, (the ability to analyze problems and identify solutions).
