Investment Attorney The candidate will be principally responsible for serving the legal needs of the Company’s Investment Department, will involve significant and direct counsel to the Chief Investment Officer and the senior leaders of the derivatives and investment operations teams within the Department, report to the Vice President & Associate General Counsel of firm's Life Insurance Company, and will supervise an Associate Counsel to the Investment Department. The work will involve, among other things, significant and frequent transaction negotiation and documentation, counseling Investment Department personnel on state and federal law applicable to the portfolio and transactions being considered, maintaining and monitoring investment governance documentation, policies, and procedures, including associate training, counseling and serving as secretary to the Company’s Investment Committee, working with the Company’s accountants to ensure that investments are accounted for and reported properly, collaborating with the legal and business teams of Eldridge Industries, firm's’s parent company, when jointly engaging in investment or financing transactions, and responding to regulatory inquiries related to the Company’s investments.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must be Member of the Bar (any state) in good standing; ability, if not licensed in Kansas, to become licensed for in-house practice in Kansas or to become licensed through reciprocity. Should preferably have Juris Doctor or better. Must have 10+ years of legal experience, including 5+ years advising on investments, general corporate, business transactions or securities matters. Knowledge of and experience applying and advising on insurance laws as applicable to investments by insurers and insurance holding companies helpful. Exposure to derivatives and financial technology helpful.
