Staff Attorney
The candidate will access and manage data and records in agency systems, including record keeping and time-tracking related to daily work activities. Identify legal issues, develop strategies to address them, and communicate solutions; Interface with the public on legal matters. Possess and utilize organizational skills, including ability to organize workflow in order to stay within agency guidelines and statutory limits. Present legal issues to the disciplinary authority in contested hearings (e.g. fast track non-compliance, pro se disciplinary matters, request for modification, reinstatement and release, etc.). Review documentation on requests for release of file materials to such as subpoenas and other public disclosure matters. Participate in case management meetings and case reviews. Assist case management teams to make initial determinations to investigate or close complaints, to pursue disciplinary action. Address questions related to: federal and state statutes; departmental policies; statutes and rules regarding confidentiality of health care information and public disclosure of governmental information. Must have admission in good standing to practice law in the State of Washington. Should have 1+ years as a Hearings Examiner or attorney in a governmental agency. OR 1+ years as a member of an administrative tribunal empowered to issue findings of fact and law. OR 1+ years of trial practice in private or public employment as an attorney and admission in good standing to practice law in the State of Washington. Should have 3+ years as a Hearings Examiner or attorney in a governmental agency. OR 3+ years as a member of an administrative tribunal empowered to issue findings of fact and law. OR 3+ years of trial practice in private or public employment as an attorney and admission in good standing to practice law in the State of Washington. Familiarity with state laws, including the Uniform Disciplinary Act and Washington Administrative Procedure Act is preferred.
