Paralegal The candidate provides guidance and assistance to physicians, allied health staff, attorneys and other parties, internally and externally, with respect to legal matters affecting firm charitable activities and fundraising. Responsible for managing a large and diversified workload in support of attorneys and clients that requires strong decision-making capabilities, a high level of independent judgment, and a good understanding of the organization and its business needs. Under general direction, the Paralegal completes work at an advanced level with most work requiring limited attorney revision. Duties include review of probate, estate/trust and tax matters and related court documents, correspondence from attorneys, advisors and benefactors, as well as historical information in the Development database related to vested financial interest. Additional duties include preparing agreements such as, but not limited to, charitable gift annuity contracts and calculations, gift agreements and deeds, drafting letters to attorneys, trustees, estate contacts and benefactors; completing documents, filings and forms as needed; investigating facts, and inquiring about discrepancies in accountings. Paralegal will also review charitable solicitation and gift annuity registrations; assisting in managing disputes and real estate transactions as well as conducting legal research as needed. Paralegal may also participate in database maintenance, creating and running reports needed by managing attorney, and handling inquiries by managing attorney, external contacts, and internal clients. Must have four year degree and a paralegal certificate from an American Bar Association (ABA) certified program or a Bachelorâ€™s degree from an ABA approved paralegal educational program. Must demonstrate solid knowledge in one or more areas of law and its processes. Requires 3 years of prior paralegal, relevant legal experience or other related experience or a JD degree is required. Solid knowledge of the law and its processes is needed. Good command of the English language, excellent writing and communication skills, and the ability to relate well to people is essential.
