Senior Counsel
The candidate will represent bank in discussions with regulatory entities and industry associations. Proactively manage legal, reputational, regulatory and other risks into business reality, devise action plans and engage in coordinated and decisive risk management and crisis prevention. Advise senior business leaders of opportunities to settle or defend existing litigation and regulatory investigations, and offensively engage in litigation when appropriate. Manage outside counsel relationships and costs to ensure superior value and risk management from outside counsel retainers. Work across key groups of stakeholders, building lines of communication between the businesses and their Functional Partners and regulatory authorities in the United States. Monitor litigation trends worldwide and assist senior business leaders to devise preventative and proactive steps to avoid litigation, mitigate risk, and minimize financial or reputational loss. Work with Heads of Business and Functional Partners to prepare and present accurate views of the material contingent risks associated with existing and potential litigation affecting bank and ensure appropriate internal and external testing of such reports. Prepare and review reporting of contingent risks associated with existing and potential litigation and other external regulatory and public reports. Prepare and review reporting of contingent risks and associated potential litigation to external insurers on a proactive basis to ensure appropriate coverage is maintained. Achieve results through dedicated solutions oriented approach to in house legal practice. Advise Corporate Communications and Investor Relations on public litigation and regulatory investigations to help manage reputational risk.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have Law Degree and qualification to practice in the US. 8-12 years of legal experience is strongly preferred. Direct experience conducting internal investigations in both the criminal and civil setting and regulatory examinations context is necessary. Direct experience negotiating complex agreements under tight deadlines is critical. Understanding of risks and reputational issues globally is mandatory. Understanding of the requirements and role of key functional partners and internal stakeholders in a global organization is required.
