Senior Counsel
Duties: Ensuring that the Legal function is in full compliance with all corporate and governmental directives, ethics, policies, regulations, and laws; Formulating and recommending operating policies and objectives or changes in existing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with corporate, ethics, governmental regulations, and laws; Providing legal advice to business and management personnel; Functioning as liaison between management and outside legal counsel; Managing litigation support department objectives within established budget; Participating in professional associations; Developing and presenting training materials and courses for the employee workforce on a variety of legal and other functional topics; Developing and demonstrating an expertise in laws and regulations that affect business; Maintaining a safe work environment and ensuring compliance with safety objectives and policies; Sharing responsibility of self-development with immediate supervisor.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Typically a Bachelor’s Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experience. JD Degree from an ABA accredited law school; Admitted to practice law in a US jurisdiction required; Member of VA state bar or eligibility to be admitted as corporate counsel in VA; Government Contracting and Intelligence Community (IC) customer experience. 10+ years' relevant experience with a major law firm or the federal government primarily in the area of government contracting; In-depth knowledge of the FAR/DFARs and other relevant government contracting rules and regulations; Problem Solving - analytical thought needed to resolve issues in a variety of complex situations without supervision; Nature of Impact - routinely impacts quality, timeliness of results, planning and revenues or budget and frequently sets policies and procedures; Area of Impact - primarily sector wide; Interpersonal skills - communicates sensitive information, modifies belief or opinions within a program or Business Area; Negotiation Skills – negotiates mainly internally, at higher levels, and occasionally with external relationships; Senior Project/ Program team member responsible for workflow which is varied in nature with situations frequently requiring new solutions; Strong oral and written communication skills as well as outstanding organizational and analytical skills; Work independently, but collaboratively in a team setting while displaying a high level of self-direction and sound judgment; Must be a self-starter, have a pro-active approach to address issues before they create legal exposure; Able to handle a multitude of complex and challenging situations; Desktop computer competency to include proficiency in Westlaw and MS Office Suite.
