ProfilePatent Paralegal The candidate will manage file patent documents with the USPTO such as new applications, declarations, assignments, information disclosure statements, issue fee payments and related filings. Will file international (PCT) applications, PCT amendments and Demands for International Preliminary Examination. Instruct international counsel to enter the national phase of PCT applications in jurisdictions. Instruct international counsel to file utility and design patent applications in jurisdictions. Oversee international patent prosecution matters from filing to grant including payment of annuities or interfacing with clients regarding payment of annuities. Communicate with the firm’s attorneys and clients regarding all aspects of patent prosecution matters. Work with Docketing department to prepare status and docket reports for clients. Maintain accurate electronic records for client matters, and ensure integrity of Docketing department’s records. Process incoming files transferred to the firm, and prepare files for transfer out of the firm. Capture billable time in the firm’s timekeeping system. Maintain current knowledge of USPTO, PCT and international patent laws and practices.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have 5+ years of patent filing and prosecution experience and in-depth knowledge of patent filing and prosecution practices in the USPTO, PCT and in major jurisdictions worldwide. Proficiency with MS Office and Document Management Systems such as iManage is required. Should be able to work independently in a high-volume, deadline-driven, service-oriented environment. Strong communication skills is required.
