Pre - law Legal Assistant The candidate will provide legal assistant support to unit/section/division chiefs and to attorneys responsible for investigating and litigating violations of firmâ€™s Consumer Fraud Act. This position is designed for recent college graduates who intend to pursue a career in law, and will provide the selected candidate with experiences that will help prepare him or her for law school and a legal career. Among other things, this position performs legal research; assists with consumer fraud investigations; gathers evidence for trial, as necessary; drafts memoranda; prepares pleadings; and assists with the drafting of legislation, as appropriate. In addition, the position conducts legal and policy-oriented research for attorneys and section/division chiefs, and assists, as necessary, with the operation of the State of firmâ€™s fintech regulatory sandbox, the first such regulatory sandbox in the nation. Familiarity with the concepts, terminology, principles, and procedures of American law is needed. Knowledge of research methods and resources, and the ability to conduct legal research using Westlaw and library materials are needed. Understanding of the attorney-client relationship, including the need for confidentiality and discretion is needed. Skilled in conducting research, including to research relating to legislative or policy initiatives is needed. Advanced skills in both oral and written communications is needed. Proficiency with grammar, punctuation, spelling, editing, and formatting of document is essential. Skilled at using programs in the Microsoft Office suite, as well as Adobe Acrobat; ability to work within computer databases is needed. Word processing and transcribing skills are essential. Typing 60 wpm is needed.
