Director, Grievances/Discipline The candidate reports to Senior Director, Labor Relations. Under the direction of the Senior Director, Labor Relations, with latitude for the exercise of independent judgment, the Director, Grievances/Discipline will be responsible for a broad array of labor relations issues, including to, arbitrations, collective bargaining negotiations and contract interpretation. Ensure consistent application of Company collective bargaining agreements and policies. Represent Company at discipline and grievance arbitrations. Provide advice and counsel to senior management regarding all labor relations issues. Participate in collective bargaining negotiations and implementation of labor contracts. Act as liaison with outside counsel in the presentation of labor related matters. Conduct hearings, investigate grievances and conduct related research. Prepare contract language, agreements, pleadings, briefs, legal memoranda, letters and other legal documents. Interpret and administer labor contracts and other related agreements with respect to grievances, wages and salaries, health benefits, pensions, union and management practices, and other labor issues.
Qualification and Experience
A Bachelorâ€™s Degree in Industrial Relations or a related field; a law degree and admission to the Bar of the State of New York and local federal district courts is preferred. 8 years of experience in labor relations including 2 years in a managerial/supervisory capacity; or A satisfactory equivalent of education and successful experience. Must have knowledge of contract, employment and constitutional law and regulatory requirements. Should have experience with litigating labor disputes and negotiating collective bargaining agreements. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Should have excellent analytical, problem solving and research skills. Must have ability to interface effectively with senior management, union officials, staff and counsel of agency, MTA affiliates and external organizations.
