Staff Attorney- LASSA The candidate will be advising clients as to legal rights, and providing legal services, advice, and information by telephone and in-person. Dress appropriately for position; and maintain the highest degree of professionalism. Execute intake interviews, confirm the callerâ€™s eligibility for services and check for conflicts of interest. Analyze the callerâ€™s legal problem, advise the caller in a culturally sensitive and trauma-informed manner over the phone, or refer the caller to a network partner for assistance. Work with clients in a culturally sensitive, trauma-informed manner. Conduct legal research and factual investigation as needed to perform the tasks undertaken on behalf of eligible clients. Communicate with third parties on behalf of clients to resolve legal problems, or assist client in drafting pleadings. Ensure that all appointments and deadlines are calendared and timely executed with sufficient time dedicated for management approval of legal documents. Manage clients in crisis situations by responding promptly to their needs and soliciting their feedback to improve services. Maintain the highest ethical and professional standards as a member of the State Bar and stay current with updates and changes to the law. Adhere to the ABA Standards for Civil Legal Services Providers. Cultivate working relationships, both internally and with network partners and other social services agencies in the community, to advance program and organizational goals. Comply with all regulations, grant requirements, and internal operating and personnel policies. Ensure all client, project, and computer files are maintained in an orderly manner. Demonstrate proficiency with firm case management system, Adobe and Microsoft Office products and social media tools and the ability to learn new technologies to carry out job functions. Embrace and support firmâ€™s overall mission, standards, policies, and confidentiality requirements. Maintain the highest level of professionalism. Type with speed and accuracy and to use office software and case management systems. Assist, lead, and promote education efforts statewide and in local programs, including participation in various trainings aimed at law enforcement, attorneys, judges, and other social service providers. Demonstrate knowledge and expertise of the law and legal system, especially in areas that impact domestic violence and sexual assault survivors. Work with Managing Attorney to correct any legal or intake problems. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizationâ€™s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include training, planning, assigning and directing the work of others (volunteers, interns, intake staff and paralegals).
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have JD degree and licensure by the Supreme Court of Texas with 3+ years of relevant work experience in Texas. Should have 3 years of licensure can be waived with proof of a superior ability to apply the law pertaining to survivors of sexual assault. Training and/or experience in working with victims of sexual assault and domestic violence is needed. Demonstrated commitment to public interest law and social justice advocacy and excellent written and verbal communication skills is must. Spanish-speaker is preferred.
