Intermediate Paralegal, Litigation The candidate performs legal assignments that are varied and more complex in character but usually involving relatively limited responsibilities. Work is subject to review by others. Investigates the law applicable to the situation. Makes basic decisions when presented with legal issues that have not been encountered. Responsible for assisting with varied and more complex research activities, the execution of legal transactions, and preparation and processing of legal documents. Supervisor approval will be required for other decisions. May have direct interaction with external clients, witnesses, and outside counsel with supervision. Creates and implements paper and electronic document collection, review and production systems and tracking documents with minimal supervision. Understands intermediate e-discovery and computer forensics concepts such as litigation holds, preservation of data and chain of custody. Creates and implements case file and organizational systems for electronic and paper case files and workrooms. Compiles, reviews and analyzes documents as required by attorneys specific to case issues and determines necessary information. Communicates, corresponds and interacts with clients and outside entities, such as, government entities, expert witnesses, vendors, corporations and other law firms to gather information or data. Serves as factual resource on cases and demonstrates knowledge of case documents. Assists with department projects as needed and performs other work-related duties as assigned by the Lead Manager. Enters cases in the matter management database and actively managing the cases which include staying abreast of the status, working effectively with and monitoring outside counsel, managing cases to budget, staying organized, using good judgment, working well with company colleagues, employing a team/collaborative approach to make decisions when necessary, utilizing and routinely updating case files. Conducts factual research: culls relevant information from a variety of resources, such as company databases, TLO, newspapers, magazines, libraries, case documents, trade associations, etc. Should have 3-5 years of paralegal experience. Should have 2 years formal legal training or equivalent. Capable of communicating effectively with co-workers and those in other departments are preferred. Should possesses very strong oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate to attorneys and staff. Must deliver high quality work product and have the ability to follow up and follow through. Good written and oral communication skills are preferred.
