Social Science Program Coordinator, GS 07 The candidate: Facilitates and empowers clients to develop and achieve self-determined goals related to health and wellness. Support clients in mobilizing internal strengths and external resources and develops self-management strategies for making sustainable, healthy lifestyle behavior changes and more effectively managing chronic disease. Assists clients to use their insight, personal strengths and resources, goals setting, action steps and accountability toward healthy lifestyle change. Contact eligible participants for enrollment and explain the health coaching process. Coordinate with others on the Veteran's health care team to ensure optimal patient care. Provide health coaching for Veterans in order to reduce or eliminate high-risk behaviors while increasing healthy ones. Conduct interventions for Veterans using one-on-one, couple, or group modalities in outpatient and inpatient settings. Develop treatment plans for Veterans focused on behavioral interventions based on current scientific knowledge and research that improve quality of life and reduce risk for chronic disease, or that reverse or slow progression of chronic disease. Perform all other duties as assigned. Traveling is required.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have the following qualifications:
Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

A Combination of education and experience--that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. (Unofficial Transcripts required)


4+ years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

For GS-7 Grade Specific Qualifications: A bachelor's degree and superior academic achievement S.A.A. (S.A.A. is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. Must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. Must have a grade-point average of: 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. Grade-point averages are to be rounded to one decimal place. For example, 2.95 will round to 3.0 and 2.94 will round to 2.9. 3. Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society--Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies listed below. These honor societies are listed in the Association of College Honor Societies: Booklet of Information (1992-95) and/or Baird's Manual of American College Fraternities (1991). Agencies considering eligibility based on any society not included in the following list must ensure that the honor society meets the minimum requirements of the Association of College Honor Societies. Membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision.


Should have 1+ year of graduate level study, or possess a master's or higher degree, e.g., LL.B, J.D., LL.M., Ph.D., in a field that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Must have 1+ year of specialized experience to qualify at the GS-7 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to the GS-5 level in the federal service. Qualifying experience include: screening of patients to determine program eligibility, program orientation to new patients, receives patients and provides psychological and social assessments, conducts therapeutic counseling, prepares written assessments based on knowledge of patient's background.
