Policy Writer, 30087-01
Duties: The candidate will be writing, drafting, and editing new policies, procedures, memoranda, and other written materials related to child welfare and juvenile justice. Will be developing policies and procedures as a result of new initiatives, such as Close to Home. Supporting and participating in projects that relate to changes in policy and procedures as well as training sessions on newly developed procedures. Conducting legal research and reviewing applicable laws and regulations to inform agency policies. Providing legal technical assistance to the unit and other agency staff, by attending meetings and reviewing legal issues and documents, in order to assist in resolving legal questions. Updating existing procedures to ensure that staff of ACS and its provider agencies are in compliance with agency policies and applicable laws and regulations.

Qualification and Experience

Qualification and Experience: The candidate should have admission to the New York State Bar. Should have 1+ years of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state Bar.
OR
Should have 6+ months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086). Must be member of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.
Must have 1+ years of experience at Assignment Level I or 2+ years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the Bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment. Must have 2+ years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the Bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment. Excellent writing skills, as well as strong verbal communication skills is preferred. Strong computer skills (e.g., formatting Word documents, creating Excel spreadsheets) is preferred. Should have experience in conducting research. Should also have knowledge of child welfare and juvenile justice statutes, regulations, and policies.
