ProfileAssistant Attorney General IV The candidate serves Financial Litigation and Charitable Trust. Performs complex attorney work for the Office of the Attorney Generalâ€™s (OAG) Financial Litigation and Charitable Trusts Division, primarily with the Divisionâ€™s Contract Litigation team, by providing legal advice, counsel, and assistance; representing the Stateâ€™s interest in contract disputes; reviewing, evaluating, and rendering legal opinions regarding state contracting; and assisting in drafting bills for legislative consideration. Provides technical guidance and training to less tenured staff. Prepares legal opinions, briefs, pleadings, motions, petitions, and other legal documents. Analyzes factual and legal issues; and develops evidence through witness interviews, depositions, and other discovery. Prepares cases for trial and tries cases before state and/or federal court. Represents the Stateâ€™s interest in various civil matters relating to contract litigation. Other work may be assigned from the Financial Litigation team, including, securities, insurance, banking, accountancy, open records, garnishment, unclaimed property, benefits, and various administrative law matters. Provides legal advice to client state agencies, board, and officials. Represents the Office of the Attorney General before state or federal district and appellate courts. Performs legal research and reports findings and conclusions. Assists in drafting bills and amendments for legislative consideration; assists in training less tenured staff. Maintains effective working relationships with co-workers, attorneys, client agencies, and opposing counsel. Performs related work as assigned. Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions. Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule. Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information. Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity. Post-graduate degree in business and finance is needed. Should have 1+ year of judicial clerkship in either federal or state court is needed. Graduation from high school or equivalent is needed. Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas is essential. Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas is needed. Should have 3+ years of full-time civil litigation/civil trial experience as a licensed attorney. Knowledge of financial and securities law is needed. Skill in using a computer for word-processing and data entry/retrieval is needed. Should have 5+ years of litigation experience in contract or complex litigation, including direct experience with discovery, motion practice, trial experience, and appellate litigation.
