Paralegal - Medical Compliance Regulatory Candidate will part of the Regulatory Compliance team that promotes health care compliance within University Health System/University School of Medicine. Under the direction of the Associate Director and/or the Executive Director of Regulatory Compliance, responsible for conducting legal research specifically in matters related to regulatory compliance, including reviewing University School of Medicine Policies, Rules and Regulations. Supports the Associate and Executive Director(s) conducting legal research relative to regulatory compliance issues, including: Physician contracting, emergency medical treatment & labor act (EMTALA), Stark law, anti-kickback statute, civil monetary penalties, false claims act, and any other regulatory issues. Review and analyze policies and procedures in support of the UHealth Regulatory Compliance program. Drafts legal documents at the direction of the Associate/Executive Director(s), under limited supervision. Maintain strict confidentiality of all matters. Research regulatory compliance best practices, standards benchmarks for ethics and compliance, statutes, regulations and regulatory filings. Collaborate with the Associate Director in reviewing/editing the annual Regulatory Audit Work Plan. Completes and updates detailed reports and summaries of legal compliance information. Represents the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in an ethical and professional manner. Promotes compliance, best practices and solutions.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements: Bachelor's degree, Paralegal Certificate preferred (or comparative experience) and 4 years of work related experience in healthcare law or regulatory field. Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills, specifically legal writing. Understanding of regulatory compliance and be familiar with federal and state healthcare regulatory agencies. Knowledge of documentation guidelines in an academic medical center preferred. Detailed oriented person with strong organizational, analytical, interpersonal and motivational skills required. Ability to work both independently and as a team player and to collaborate well with others. Strong computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.) Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
