A law firm seeks an experienced Insurance Defense Attorney to join its growing team in Ontario, CA. This position offers the flexibility of remote work, with a focus on defending personal injury claims, including complex and questionable matters (SIU). The ideal candidate will have 5-20 years of experience in personal injury defense, with the ability to manage own caseload, conduct depositions, work with experts, and prepare for trial. Opportunities for second chair and, potentially, first chair trial experience are available for motivated individuals.

Duties:

  • Independently manage a caseload of personal injury defense matters, including reviewing case files and discovery.
  • Take and defend depositions, including expert witness depositions.
  • Work with paralegals to obtain, review, and summarize medical records.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients, providing updates and managing expectations.
  • Retain and consult with expert witnesses to build case strategy.
  • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda as necessary.
  • Prepare trial documents and assist with trial preparation.
  • Attend court hearings and report case progress to clients.
  • Collaborate with team members and support staff to ensure effective case management.
  • Potential for second chair and first chair trial opportunities, depending on interest and experience.

Requirements:

  • 5-20 years of experience in personal injury defense or insurance defense law.
  • Active membership in the California State Bar.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple cases efficiently.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and legal research tools.
  • Experience with insurance defense, including handling depositions and trial preparation.
  • Excellent negotiation, problem-solving, and client relations skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
  • Knowledge of discovery rules and general litigation procedures.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the California State Bar.
