VP and Assistant General Counsel and Practice Group Manager-Corporate & Commercial Law Practice Duties: Manages the work of the Corporate & Commercial Law Practice Group, including: Setting work priorities for the practice group-s teams and individuals so that they align to the needs of national, regional and local customers. Continuously develops individual and team skills of the practice group in order to ensure that it is providing the highest quality and most cost effective legal services. Motivates and empowers practice group members while holding them accountable for high performance. Promotes departmental integration and collaboration by functioning as a partner with the General Counsel, Regional Counsel and other practice group leaders to provide team based services to customers. Jointly with the other members of the Department management team, implements human resources processes for all attorneys, including career and professional development, succession planning, staffing, training, compensation and incentives. Models open and courageous communications as well as expert, calm, and objective advice and guidance that aligns with the direction provided by the organization through the CEO and General Counsel. Promotes diversity and inclusion in both the Department and in outside counsel and vendors. Insists on the highest ethical standards among legal department personnel.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree, required. License, Certification, Registration Bar membership required in the state where the attorney is situated. Experience 12+ years of experience as a practicing attorney, primarily in general business transactional law, required. Recognized (externally and/or internally) as an expert in one or more specialties within the corporate & commercial law area, with a focus on complex business transactions. Deep expertise with Intellectual Property law and structures in the health technology field strongly preferred. Demonstrates leadership capability, including experience in managing change efforts designed to increase efficiency and quality within the legal function and the larger organization. Demonstrated experience in leading substantial team-based projects, with documented leadership success in driving outcomes that have material value to the organization. Excellent interpersonal skills, including demonstrated success in fostering collaboration, cooperation and collegiality between senior leadership and legal staff, and among lawyers from various practice groups. Demonstrates modeling of open, courageous, objective and calm dialogue with leadership and colleagues. Actively discourages indirect or covert communications. Demonstrates self-reflection and self-development. Seeks out opportunities for learning and ongoing professional development, particularly regarding learning about the broader health care industry and legal issues outside one-s area of expertise. Actively solicits and is receptive to feedback from others, demonstrating openness to viewpoints different from own.
