ProfileLGBT Immigration Fellow Fellow will provide immigration legal services to LGBT individuals in rural communities across California, with a focus on the Central Coast. The fellow will also support community education, leadership development, and collaborative efforts that enhance support for LGBT immigrants in rural California. The LGBT Fellow will most likely be based in company’s Salinas or Watsonville field offices. Take on an immigration caseload, with supervision support; interview clients; conduct legal research; prepare applications for U, V, T status prepare applications for adjustment of status prepare naturalization applications, identify and pursue opportunities for systemic advocacy that will improve supports for LGBT immigrants, particularly in rural communities. Support leadership development activities for former clients and LGBT immigrant communities. Participate in community outreach and education.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Law degree + CA Bar license or intention to take CA Bar exam in February or July. Should have experience in the practice of law, preferably in immigration, LGBT and/or social justice law. Must have experience and/or interest in working with LGBT and/or low-income communities. Experience and/or interest in the intersection of criminal and immigration law is a plus. Strong case management, legal research, and legal writing skills required. Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred. Passion for social justice for immigrants required.
