ProfileTax Attorney The candidate will participate in all facets of tax law including becoming a key contributor in the Tax Groupâ€™s large tax controversy practice as well as having an opportunity to assist the Tax and Business Practice Groups in connection with transactional tax matters. Will work closely with the Principals of the Tax Practice Group in connection with the groupâ€™s tax controversy practice on both the federal and state level, including matters related to examination, appeals, tax court litigation, voluntary disclosures, offshore asset compliance and collection alternatives (negotiating installment agreements and offers in compromise). On the transaction side, work alongside the Principals in the Tax and Business Practice Groups in structuring and negotiating mergers, stock purchase transactions, asset acquisitions, debt and equity financings, employee incentive plans, limited liability company agreements and shareholder agreements. Demands significant client contact almost immediately and involves research, strategizing, drafting and interacting with others both inside and outside the Firm, including tax authorities. Should have LL.M. Degree in Taxation or a CPA. 2-5 years of relevant law firm experience is preferred. Knowledge of, and experience with, federal income tax procedure is preferred along with an in-depth knowledge of subchapters C, K and S of the Internal Revenue Code. Any prior drafting experience is a plus. Must be barred in Maryland or eligible to sit for the Maryland Bar exam.
