Senior Paralegal - Store Operations and Services The candidate will be responsible to assist in providing strategic guidance and investigation support as a partner to the Loss Prevention & Safety (LP-Safety) team regarding store incidents and other disputed matters. Provide regulatory review, research and guidance in connection with various federal and state laws involving product labeling and pet shop/animal sales licensing. Prepare reports and spreadsheets regarding regulatory matters, pending litigation and pre-suit disputes. Review, investigate and draft responses to government inquiries, including Attorney General, Animal Control and related agencies. Partner with Store Operations & Services team on review of policies and procedures and various business agreements. Assist the Senior Litigation Counsel in providing guidance and legal advice on business initiatives and operational enhancements. Manage, monitor and report to Senior Litigation Counsel customer inquiries and complaints, and conduct preliminary investigations regarding the same, including requesting/reviewing information from LP-Safety and Store Operations & Services partners. From time to time, assist in the management of litigated matters and pending claims, including discovery issues, subpoena responses and deposition/mediation preparation. Assist in the management and resolution of matters involving the Americans with Disabilities Act, Small Claims and other disputes.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree and/or paralegal certificate are preferred but not required (an equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered). Minimum of 7 years solid experience working as a regulatory and/or litigation paralegal interfacing with business operations teams. Prior in-house paralegal experience in the retail industry is strongly preferred. Positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work well with others is needed. Must have ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accurate attention to detail. Ability to comprehend, analyze and interpret real-estate documents is essential. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are needed. Ability to manage multiple projects, adjust to shifting priorities and meet demanding/time-sensitive deadlines is critical. Must have strong computer skills (including MS Office).
