Staff Attorney The candidate will provide legal representation to low-income clients primarily unaccompanied minors in the areas of immigration, family law and guardianships but may include work in other priority areas such as human trafficking and domestic violence. This work will include representation of clients in state and immigration court. Will conduct community education and outreach. Staff clinics at sites accessible to the low-income and senior consumers. Provide technical assistance and training to community and public agencies. Represent the organization at community, legal, funding, and other meetings and functions. Assist with administrative and fundraising work of the organization.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have 2+ years of experience in representing low-income and non-English speaking clients in progressively more complex immigration and/or family law/guardianship matters. Should preferably have 2+ years of civil litigation experience in representing low-income clients. Demonstrated commitment to social justice and the advancement of underserved communities is required. Experience in serving target populations and working in disadvantaged communities of color desired. Strong advocacy and courtroom skills are essential. Should have bilingual and bicultural skills particularly relevant to underserved Latino communities and a native Spanish speaker. Working knowledge of Time Matters, Abacus Law, and Immigrant Pro or similar programs is desired. Must be a member in good standing of the California Bar.
