Job Overview: A leading law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its Intellectual Property practice group. This role involves handling patent preparation and prosecution in the areas of software, computer science, electrical, or mechanical engineering. The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced patent practitioners and engage in high-level legal matters from inception to conclusion, contributing to a collaborative and supportive team environment.

Duties:

  • Manage patent preparation and prosecution cases, focusing on software, computer science, electrical, or mechanical disciplines.
  • Oversee multiple legal matters at various stages, from initial consultation to final resolution.
  • Conduct in-depth research and provide strategic advice on intellectual property issues.
  • Draft and review patent applications, amendments, and related legal documents.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and colleagues, ensuring high-quality client service and satisfaction.
  • Develop business opportunities and contribute to firm growth, both individually and as part of a team.
  • Uphold the highest ethical standards in all aspects of legal practice.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a licensed attorney in a law firm setting.
  • Experience in patent preparation and prosecution within software, computer science, electrical, or mechanical fields.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions with minimal supervision, and produce high-quality legal work.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Certifications:

  • Active law license in good standing in at least one jurisdiction where the firm operates.
  • Must be registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
