Legal Assistant III The candidate performs advanced (senior level) assistant work with a focus on the Texas Public Information Act, formerly known as the Open Records Act. Work involves coordinating legal activities, researching, analyzing, investigating, and drafting responses to requests for public information and records. May train or supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Coordinates, assembles, and prepares responses to requests for public information, discovery requests, and other documents for use in legal proceedings. Drafts, correspondence, memoranda, and briefs. Reviews and edits legal documents. Researches and analyzes statutes, case law, administrative records, opinions, contracts, and administrative rules and regulations. May train or supervise the work of others. Performs related work as assigned. Must have specific knowledge of the Texas Public Information (Open Records) Act. Skill in the use of office equipment, and in the use of guides and reference materials. Should have demonstrated experience using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Powerpoint, Microsoft Access, and internet-based research applications. Must have High school graduation or equivalent. Graduation from a course of study for legal assistants or Associate's or Bachelor's degree helpful. Must have experience in a litigation, corporate, or administrative law office. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required. Should have experience interacting with state agency administration, staff, and the general public.
