Senior Staff Attorney – Adult Detention The candidate will work within the Adult Detention Program, providing direct legal representation to individuals detained at the detention centers in four different facilities in the towns of Florence and Eloy, AZ. Will serve as a trainer and mentor to Staff Attorneys and Legal Assistants on this team. This includes co-chairing legal representation with staff attorneys before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals. Work with the Managing Attorney to develop systems associated with intakes, case distribution, and allocation of resources to cases. Provide group “Know Your Rights” presentations, individual intakes, group and individual court counseling and prep sessions, and pro se services to immigrants facing removal proceedings before the Immigration Court. May also mentor law student interns and other volunteers, and participate in related advocacy and outreach projects. Fluency or advanced proficiency in Spanish is required. Must be licensed to practice law in any state. Preferred 2-3 years of experience in immigration law, removal defense, and/or any relevant legal work related. Must have a demonstrated commitment to immigration issues and public interest law, who enjoy working in a collaborative, high volume, and energetic work environment. Prior advocacy work in immigrant rights, human rights, LGBTQ rights, criminal justice, mental health advocacy, or experience working with trauma survivors is a plus.
